BlackBerry 9800 "Torch" and OS 6.0 Info

For the BlackBerry users/fans out there, like myself. There is news buzzing of another BlackBerry device coming out in June (for AT&T). It is being labelled as a BlackBerry 9800 Torch so far. This device is a slider with touchscreen, and full keyboard like the one you would find on a Bold 9700. There is no word on how the touchscreen is going to function. I would assume the touchscreen would function like that of the latest Storm. From what I've been reading, this device will come preloaded with the new OS (6.0). Some screen shots, and details on how this OS actually functions can be found here courtesy of the Boy Genius Report.  From the rumours online the "9800" will have:

  • 5 MP Camera with "Liquid Lens Technology"
  • 3.2" Touchscreen with 360 x 480 pixel resolution having 65K colours
  • HSDPA, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooh, and 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Touch-sensitive optical trackpad
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • microSD slot, up to 16GB
  • microUSB v2.0
  • Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery
When I first saw some pictures of this device online a few months back, I didn't like it, but now that I've read more about what the device should be capable of, it's not looking as bad. It looks like a large Palm Pre from the pictures I've seen.  The most important improvement with the new OS is the fact that it is running an updated WebKit browser. This means that this BlackBerry, and all other handhelds in-market that will be allowed to update to OS 6.0 will have a much better browsing experience than what we have from our devices now. If you missed the link above, more details on how the browser works can be found here.
